Looking forward to following your blogs to see if you can better ours from Togo! Enjoy the life altering experience as I did as a newcomer to the SCAW travelling volunteers. I'm sure that the children in Uganda will be as pleased as the children from Togo!

Hello Team Uganda!
Warmest thoughts and prayers are with you all as you begin your incredible journey! I can picture you, the beautiful Canadian Team of Volunteers as you meld together with those incredible Ladies of the Inner Wheel...I can picture those beautiful African children....so timid, so in awe and so overwhelmed! I will be sharing your journey every step of the way! Debbie...I can just taste that incredible Stoney (Ginger Ale) you are probably sipping as you read this! Hope Sieg has had his first meal of goat...and that his teeth are still in tact! Ha! Ha! I can hardly wait to see the magic your camera creates!
Wishing you the most awesome of journeys!

I am just learning about this wonderful organization and as a Sunday School teacher plan to get our church behind this positive process. As a mom of 4, looking to install volunteerism and global consciousness in my own children what better way than raising money for this. Enjoy your latest trip.

Happy Mother's Day, Team Uganda!

The work that you're doing and the happiness that you are spreading made us realize how truly blessed our families are.

We just finished looking at our children in their beds (after they escaped out of them twice!) and we hope that you can help to bring the same warmth into the hearts of some of Uganda's mothers and fathers.

A hero is anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem
A hero is a person who is able to help another in various ways
A person can become a hero by saving someone who is in danger
A person can become a hero when they are there to help others and gives them strength to go on through life’s difficulties
A hero can be someone who gave up his or her life so another could live
A hero does not always have to show courage, they can be afraid but still be a hero through their actions

For the families of the Ugandan team volunteers, each of you are our heroes. You are making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people. Your acts of selflessness set an example for everyone to follow. You make everyone around you better people and we are all proud of the hard work you are doing.

Stay safe and coming home to us soon!

Happy Sunday, Team Uganda!

We've been talking about SCAW a lot at home as we follow your Ugandan journey. The pictures of the children are just heart-melting and it's impossible not to smile or even get a bit teary (sorry, Di!) at the sight of those beautiful faces.

Rian and Tesia both know that "Aunt Jenny and Aunt Di are in Africa giving beds (and toys! - Tesia) to boys and girls". Then they ask when all of your new friends are coming over to play! They even offered to share their bubbles - no small offering!

Hopefully they will learn from your selflessness and your fine example and incorporate some "pay it forward" in their lives too.

We were wondering how long it would take for the conversation to turn to food (Wilson trait) and you did not let us down! It all sounds quite yummy, save for the grasshopppers (well did you, Jenny?).

Stay safe, soak it up and share the love!

xo Matt, Irene, Rian, Tesia

Hi Jenny and Di from rainy California! I really have a Muzungu cause the sun won't come out here, though I am sure it is nothing compared to the rains you’ve seen lately!

I hope you both are doing well, the pictures and the updates are great to see and I can tell from the smiling faces that the kids really appreciate everything you are doing for them.
Keep up the fantastic work.

I can't believe you've been away for nearly two weeks already, and I’m counting down the days until you are back (honestly I’ve been counting them since the day you left, but that’s another story…..) We received the new shipments from Jessup and Ridge and there are bottles just waiting for you to come back to. Just think of raising a glass of great wine to celebrate your trip and all your work as we look over Penn Lake! I can’t wait.

Hurry home.

Love you both!

The Healing Effects of Altruism

Don't spend your precious time asking
"Why isn't the world a better place?"
It will only be time wasted.

The question to ask is:
"How can I make it better?"
To that there is an answer.

Giving Back and Spreading Joy

See the joy in someone's face, a smile on a child's or an elderly person's face and experience feelings of warmth, contentment and gratitude in your heart as you bring joy to others. You will be making the world a better place by bringing joy. Only then will you begin to understand why people give back

When you give back, you are spreading joy like a perfume, which cannot be poured on someone without getting some on yourself. When you freely give of yourself there is little room left for feeling depressed, sad or lonely.

Did You Bring Joy?

Ancient Egyptians believed that upon death
they would be asked two questions and
their answers would determine whether
they could continue their journey in the afterlife.

The first question was, 'Did you bring joy?'
The second was, 'Did you find joy?'
