Mumbai/Belgaum: Bird watching in India

As we travel through the countryside to our distribution sites, the terrain changes from the rocky Western Ghats to the lush valleys given over to intensive farming. Sugar-cane harvesting is happening right now, and we have seen hundreds of wagons loaded down, being led by gaily-decorated tractors.

One of the Rotarians in Belgaum, Niranjan Sant, is a world renowned ornithologist and photographer who has lent us several bird books. We are enjoying trying to identify those we have seen. They include Brahmany Kite, three types of Kingfisher (one of which is rare!), Flamingoes, a flying group of Storks, plus a bright green parrot.

So, not only is it a pleasure to meet the children, we get the chance to do some bird watching too.
